They have earned an all expense paid trip with me on the water for
a day. This includes their parents. I also have to give thanks for
the NC Dept of Wildlife and Fisheries for extending a no license
requirement for them on the day of the event.
Tyler Blake 8th Grade
I took one of the best field trips in my life. It was to a fishing
center in Fayetteville. It was a very fun and interesting fishing
trip. I am glad the school was chosen to go.
I really liked when the guest speaker came out to
dedicate his time to our school. He gave us some interesting facts
and showed us some interesting pictures. He also told us a little
bit about boating safety, and what was good and bad to do around
the water.
I also enjoyed getting to practice in P.E. It was fun
trying to catch the rubber fish. I was also fun practicing with
your friends in P.E.
The fishing trip was the most fun. It was fun watching the guys
show us how to tell how old a fish was. It was cool and neat to
watch the guy take the fish apart and show us the different parts
of a fish. It was fun catching a lot of fish with my friends.
It was really fun going, although I wish we could do it again.
Maybe the kids coming to the school in the future can go.
Tyler, his brother and his dad has chosen to do a little bass
fishing; we will be going to the big bass Mecca of Harris Lake
on 27 July.
Tyresha Cambel 6th grade
One of the best days I’ve had this year in 6th grade is going
fishing. I had fun before and after the field trip. I also learned
plenty about fishing. Going fishing put a new love in my life. I
recommend everyone to go fishing at least once in their life. It
might let you love to go fishing also. It’s awesome to experience
something new in your life once in a while.
Before the fishing trip we went outside during our
elective time and learned what fishing is all about. We went from
boat to boat learning new things. The boats were shiny and as beautiful
as a butterfly. One man says he goes fishing every day. He told
us that going fishing can be dangerous. If you go and try to fish
at a pond or lake without permission you can get into trouble.
I learned about 3 types of fish a ray, catfish, and trout. My
favorite fish to eat is trout. My favorite fish to catch is catfish.
One woman said her dad had to pay a lot of money for catching a
certain type of fish. I think that’s fair enough. The rules
are the rules.
The day we went on the fishing trip was exciting.
I learned a lot of things there too. First, we went fishing. I
only caught one fish though. I still had fun although the fish
kept taking my worms. The next Thing we did was learn how to react
with fish. I learned how to be safe when going fishing. The right
size life jacket is very important. The wrong size jacket can be
dangerous. If someone is drowning you can throw a rope out for
them to catch.
The last thing I learned is the history of fish. People used
to catch fish with their hands. Many came back with fewer fingers.
Bitten by something they didn’t expect. Dissecting fish is
disgusting, to me anyway when you see the insides.
In conclusion I can say fishing was an awesome experience for
me. If you haven’t been fishing, you should go. As you know
best things come to those who bait!!!
Tyresha and her mom has chosen to do a little cat fishing for
the day, we will be headed out for the big cats in Lake Jordan
on July 20th.
Erika Myhres 7th grade
About a week or so ago the 7th grade at HCCMS went on a field trip
to the John F. Pechman fishing center at Lake Rim. That is the
first fishing trip I’ve ever taken and it was so much fun. I learned
a lot. Before we went fishing we were put into groups and took a
few classes. In those classes I learned how to tell how old a fish
is by looking at the fish’s scales. I also learned they have
a lot of guts, and they stink. In their guts they have a air bladder
that makes them go higher and deeper in the water. Their gills
are made of blood vessels.
After the classes we ate and then went fishing. Since I’ve
never been fishing before I had to have someone explain to me how
to cast, take out the hook and stuff like that. After a few tries
I started to get the hang of it. As soon as I casted the first time
I caught a fish almost simultaneously as the hook hit the water.
I probably would have never known, if my friend hadn’t pointed
it out. It was a crappie, so I was told and it was so cute. Fishing
is so much fun and it was so much easier than it looked.
I will never forget my first fishing trip. I will also never
forget not to put my hand in the fish’s mouth. That’s
another thing I learned, fish have hard mouths and they can bite
hard!
I still can’t believe I was bitten by a fish and it actually
hurt. I will never live that down. I want to go fishing more now!!!
Erika and her dad have also chosen to try their hand at some bass
fishing. We will be out on Harris Lake on 19 July.
